A sunny afternoon at the end of September, a short 20 minute drive from Kelso and we arrived at Monteviot Gardens. Set over 30 acres, there are 10 different gardens and an Arboretum all set in a stunning spot by the River Teviot. The attraction has been carefully planned to give visitors something to wonder at no matter what the season. Still plenty of colour and a wide variety of plants on show. The gardens close at the end of October and plan to reopen on 1 April 2021. Almost everything is clearly labelled for those with a particular horticultural interest.

There is a small entrance fee, free if you are an RHS member (restricted days only). A hut offers refreshments from a machine (no food). There are toilets, plenty of hand sanitiser and lots of places to sit and enjoy the views. If you are really lucky you will get to chat with Ian, the Head Gardener. This will not be our last visit, it really is a gem!
