A short drive to Galashiels took us to the 5 Star visitor attraction – The Great Tapestry of Scotland. Housed in a purpose-built visitor centre in the heart of Galashiels the Tapestry tells the story of Scotland’s history, heritage, innovations and culture. A community project on a nationwide scale the Tapestry breathtakingly illustrates the rich history of Scotland’s people and it’s landscapes. It took a workforce of 1000 stitchers ,300 miles of yarn to create 140 metres of artwork , the Tapestry is beautiful and awesome on so many levels. It is a lot to take in but there are magnifying glasses provided so you can get a closer look and lots of friendly and enthusiastic staff to answer any questions. Stitchers Cafe provides gorgeous fresh food from The Scottish Larder and is well worth a visit.
